ReadyBrunswick Hurricane Expo held in Bolivia
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The ReadyBrunswick Preparedness Expo was held in Bolivia on Saturday. The expo hosted more than 20 local organizations dedicated to keeping the community safe before and after a natural disaster like a hurricane.
The event also hosted an inflatable obstacle course, an Italian ice truck, and fun for the whole family.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Steven Pfaff said Cape Fear residents cannot afford to take a season off when it comes to being prepared.
“What makes our area unique where we live is unfortunately a robust history with hurricanes,” Pfaff said. “So, we really can’t afford to take a year off in hurricane preparedness. So regardless if the number of the storms is expected to be high like this year, or if it’s going to be low in subsequent years.”
Pfaff added that factors like this year’s La Nina—which contributes to storm development in the Atlantic—are leading experts to project an active hurricane season this year.
